Apparently it's flight attendant appreciation month and that means lots of gifts and free food. I'm here for it. Thanks for the swag, Coke!
Y'all, let me tell you about my day…
SO. As you know, I flew to North Carolina from Orlando to see Tash Sultana with plans to fly back to Orlando the next day. The weather said NAH.
Got to the airport at 11am for a flight scheduled to leave at 1pm. Boarded the plane and pushed back from the gate only for the captain to tell us we'd have to sit on the tarmac for 50 minutes as flights were grounded in Orlando due to storms.
An hour later we went back to the gate waiting for more news. By 2:30, they said they'd have more information about the flight at 3:45. By 3:45, my flight was canceled…
In all my years of flying I've never experienced a canceled flight. What else is there to do but drink about it? Thanks Deep River Brewing for helping me get through this tough time.
Tash Sultana at the Koka Booth Ampitheatre in Cary, NC
If you are sleeping on @tashsultanaofficial this is your wake-up call! There aren't many artists I stalk to find out when they're going on tour, but Tash is one of them — and dare I say the most talented modern musician?? Was hoping to catch a tour stop in Orlando but I had to work, so naturally I flew to North Carolina on a day off for the show. Which happened to be outside. During a storm. Despite the rain, wind, and lighting, Tash eventually put on an incredible show that gave me goosebumps the whole way through. Also a shout-out to @piercebrothersmusic for putting on such a fun show and getting the crowd pumped up! And most importantly for bringing out a didgeridoo. I may come down with some type of illness thanks to the weather, but it'll be worth it.
Purple Parrot Grill in Rehoboth Beach, DE
A little bamboo forest that reminded me of the Manoa Falls hike in Oahu. Sipped on a vodka lemonade to drown my sorrows after I remembered I was in Delaware and not Hawaii.
Dogfish Head Brewpub in Rehoboth Beach, DE
Biked 15 miles through steady 20mph winds just to go to Dogfish Head… Worth it. If you ever get the chance to check out their brewpub please get the nachos and also invite me
Cape May Ferry in Lewes, Delaware
I've been talking about taking a bike trip to Delaware for a year now, and finally got a group together to go for my birthday! Despite the 40 mph winds and my now-sore butt, I'd say the trip was a success.
Dunkin' in Ventnor, NJ
Good morning! I'm partial to Wawa coffee but also not one to turn down a free sample. @dunkin can stay in Ventnor as long as they'd like, but can we please get our Heights Wawa back too...?
Rocco's Tacos in Fort Lauderdale, FL
Had a long layover in FLL, so naturally I decided to get some tacos. Met two guys at the bar who claimed to be Kenny Chesney's off-tour staff, in town for the Tortuga Music Festival. Whether or not they were telling the truth I don't know, but they bought shots and my dinner so whatevs.
Fort Lauderdale, FL
Finally got my first real trip! A 5-day that spans Fort Lauderdale, Aruba, Denver, Boston, and Dallas. Would've loved to have gotten stuck in Aruba for the day (preferably with a mojito instead of water), but no such luck.
Southernmost Point Buoy in Key West, FL
Key West has always floated around on my "must go" list, and the stars finally aligned for me to take a road trip there. It ended up raining most of the time, but stopped just long enough for me to see the sunrise at the "southernmost point of the continental US" (jury's still out on that one) and also grab a bangin' vanilla Cuban coffee.
Florida Keys Brewing Co. in Islamorada, FL
Perks of being a flight attendant: enough days off in a row for a mini road trip. Spent a day in the Keys kayaking Islamorada until a storm rolled in and had a beer at Florida Keys Brewing Co.
Holy Grain Coffee Shop in Orlando, FL
The chalkboard art says it all! Officially set off on my mission to visit as many coffee shops, tea houses, and breweries as possible in my new central Florida base. Any recommendations?
