Drink coffee and be awesome — two things that should be at the top of your to-do list every day. Took a break from borderline undrinkable hotel coffee to scope out coffee shops near FLL. Loved the aesthetic at Grind Coffee Project and the iced latte was top notch!
Rustic Inn Crabhouse in Fort Lauderdale, FL
Fell victim to another tourist (crab) trap... ba-dum-tsssss. Was craving seafood and this definitely did the trick. However, everyone bangs the table with hammers when a birthday is announced and apparently it was everyone's birthday. This nice pale ale from a local micro (or nano?) brewer got me through it.
Bowlero in Davie, FL
Finally had a day off, which obviously means time for a GNO! I'm not good at bowling but Bowlero has beer pong too — which I am also not good at but at least it involves beer.
Mash'd in Davie, FL
Getting warmer on the search for good food in Florida. Mash’d was a step up from everything else so far — you can rest assured I'll keep you in the loop. Hey, at least the liquor hasn't let me down.
Padrino's in Dania Beach, FL
Not sure if my standards are too high, if I'm visiting the wrong restaurants, or Florida just hasn't found its cuisine niche yet, but I've yet to be really blown away by anything here. However, this mango jalapeño mojito was fantastic, and Padrino’s is def the best food I've had here so far.
Wynwood Walls in Miami, FL
Went to Miami to check out Wynwood Walls and made an impromptu appearance at the Wynwood St. Paddy's block party for some green beer
Tap 42 at Aventura Mall in Miami, FL
All hail Lord Hobo 🙌 The first time I tried a Lord Hobo IPA it was so good my friend tried to take home full kegs of it. I can't say I blame him.
Paradise Tiki Bar & Grill in Dania Beach, FL
Dilly dilly to NJ friendship in Florida! I'm a sucker for outside bars, especially when they're on the water. Almost makes you forget you're drinking Bud Light... almost.
Dania Beach, FL
I used to be able to stay out and imbibe all night and still have the physical and mental capacity to run a full marathon the next day (figuratively speaking, as I would never willingly run a marathon). Now on the wrong side of 25, even looking at a margarita results in a 2-day hangover. Turns out jumping into a cold pool is a great hangover cure.
Taco Beach Shack in Hollywood, FL
The hardest part about not being a local is trying to separate the actually good places from the tourist traps. Our first night out on the town landed us right in a few of those tourists traps — but at least margaritas and a live band were involved.
Hollywood Beach, FL
Not exactly Hollywood California but hey, at least it's warm here too. Did research into how this city got its name (there are only so many ways I can prove I'm a nerd) and it turns out this beach town was, in fact, named after that California neighborhood we all know and love.
Anyway, history lesson over — here's a mango IPA from Hollywood Brewing.
Riverside Market South in Fort Lauderdale, FL
The first thing I did when I got to FL was map out the top-rated restaurants, bars, and breweries (yes, on an actual Google map). Hit Riverside Market South first. Beer selection was A+ (I had the J. Wakefield Nuzzle Session IPA, bomb). Expected more from the food though — was a little disappointed with the mahi tacos, which were a bit too fishy for my liking.
